Aberdeen Broadcast Services is a media services company founded in 2001, providing captioning, translation, transcription and broadcast delivery. We're expanding our legal transcription team under AberScript, our transcription and editing platform, to support a growing government transcription practice.

What The Work Actually Is You are not typing transcripts from scratch. Every assignment arrives as a Microsoft Word draft our AI generated from the hearing audio, already formatted to the house standard: margins, 25 lines per page, line numbering, header and footer are set before you open the file. Your job is to listen to the recording start to finish and correct the draft until it matches exactly what was said, then sign a certificate of accuracy and return it.

Every job comes with the formatted draft, the hearing audio, the judge's written decision, and the service order. No CAT software required.

Because you're correcting a formatted draft rather than building one, pages move considerably faster than in traditional transcription.

The standard The certificate you sign is a sworn legal statement made under penalty of perjury. The central rule is narrower than it sounds: you type what was said, not what was meant and not what is true. A speaker's bad grammar is the record. A speaker's wrong date is the record. We train you on this, and on our house format, speaker tagging, oath handling, examination headings, and back matter.

The cases Administrative law hearings: special education disputes, disability services appeals, professional licensing matters, and involuntary medication petitions. These are real hearings about real people, and the files contain medical records, mental health treatment, disability status, criminal history, and children. Some of it can be difficult to listen to.

Requirements

  • Resident of the United States, eligible to work as an independent contractor
  • Prior legal or court transcription experience, or completion of a legal transcription training program. AAERT CET certification is a strong plus
  • Microsoft Word on a Windows or Mac desktop. Not Google Docs, not Pages, not an online converter. The format depends on Word features that do not survive other editors
  • Reliable internet, quality headphones, and a transcription foot pedal or equivalent playback control
  • Careful attention to grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and the discipline to leave a speaker's errors intact
  • Willing to work from written guidelines and to apply reviewer feedback
  • Consistent availability and a track record of hitting deadlines. These transcripts carry statutory delivery dates
Pay Paid per transcript page. We will share rate when you apply. How We Onboard You You'll receive our Legal Transcription Guide and an onboarding document before your first file. Your first assignment will be a short one, worked end to end, and we'll review it with you and give you direct feedback before you take on full-length hearings. We stay available after that. This is a real team.

To apply Email your resume, along with any transcription certifications and relevant education, to [hr@aberdeen.io]. Please include the days and hours you're available and your earliest start date.
