About Walmart Produce Department

The Produce department is often called the store's front door to fresh — it is the first thing many customers see when they enter a Walmart Supercenter and the department that most strongly influences their perception of overall store quality. Produce Associates build and maintain the colorful, abundant fruit and vegetable displays that draw customers in, culling damaged items with sharp eyes, rotating stock to ensure peak freshness, and applying the misting, trimming, and stacking techniques that make the produce wall look like a farmer's market inside a major retailer.

Position Overview

Walmart is hiring Produce Associates to build and maintain fresh fruit and vegetable displays at Supercenter and Neighborhood Market locations. You will stock the produce wall and tables, cull and rotate product for maximum freshness, process daily produce truck deliveries, and assist customers with product selection and ripeness questions in one of the most visually impactful departments in the store.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the produce display wall stacking fruits and vegetables in visually appealing, abundant arrangements.
  • Cull damaged, bruised, and expired items from displays continuously throughout your shift to maintain quality perception.
  • Rotate product aggressively using FIFO ensuring the freshest items are underneath and oldest items sell first.
  • Receive and process daily produce truck deliveries, breaking down pallets and transferring cases to the sales floor and cooler.
  • Assist customers with produce selection, ripeness guidance, and preparation suggestions for unfamiliar fruits and vegetables.

Qualifications & Benefits

Must be 16+ years of age. No prior produce or grocery experience required. Good judgment for identifying quality and freshness in fruits and vegetables develops quickly with training. Must lift up to 50 lbs including cases of watermelons and bagged potatoes. Walmart offers competitive produce associate pay, flexible scheduling, associate discount, 401(k), stock purchase plan, health benefits, and advancement into produce team lead and fresh food coach positions.
